Brown dwarfs aren’t massive enough to reach temperatures high enough to begin hydrogen fusion. So if the question suggests that the object doesn’t, and never will reach hydrogen fusion, then the answer is brown dwarf. Brown dwarfs use lithium for energy.
Protostars are prestellar objects that haven’t yet begun hydrogen fusion. Protostars will condense and begin hydrogen fusion.
